Course fully booked for now

This is a two-part introductory course to deliver the basics of the potter’s wheel.

The course will take place over two Friday evening’s, for three hours each.

During the first week you will be learn the basics of how to center clay on the wheel. We’ll make some basic pot shapes to get started and to get a feel for how the clay reacts on the wheel. Then after a tea break, we’ll work towards throwing a basic mug/cup shape like the ones you’ve just been drinking from!

On the second Friday evening you’ll choose your best mug/cup shapes to finish and handle. During this session you’ll learn how to turn (carve the bases of) these pots, a whole new skill and a lovely part of the process. We will teach you how to decorate the pots using slip decoration techniques and finally how to attach handles.

The finished, turned and decorated mugs will then be coated in clear glaze by us and then glaze fired before being ready for collection.

There is a maximum of 5 students per course ensuring that everyone gets a nice bit of attention while learning to throw

Due to the level of concentration and hand-eye coordination that is required to master the wheel, these courses are for people aged 16 and over

Fridays from 6pm to 9.15pm with a 15 minute tea break

Cost includes all materials, firings, etc. for work made during the class times
