Description

If you have already completed at least two pottery courses with us and would like to come in and practice on the wheel on your own, then these pay-as-you-go practice sessions might suit you.

If you are interested in this, then you probably already know that the wheel takes a lot of work and practice to get to the level of being able to make the shapes that you want. To join these sessions you need to think of them purely in terms of improving skills rather than on trying to produce finished pots. This means making shapes, scrapping them, making them again (with new clay) etc. Time and repetition of shapes is the way to improve on the wheel.

If there are any pieces you would really, really like to keep and finish and fire, then we can do this but there will be an extra charge of €10 per mug/small jug sized pot for doing so. This is to cover our costs and to keep the focus of these sessions on practice and not on production.

Some terms and conditions for practice sessions:

Please make sure that you are able to attend on the date that you book: there is no refund if you are not able to attend and it is not possible to postpone this booking to another session.

Clay will be provided to use during the practice session and this will be recycled by us afterwards.

These time-slots are for students who have already completed at least two courses with us. Anyone wishing to book on will need to be proficient at centering clay for themselves and be able to work on their own. A technician will be present to facilitate, hand out clay etc. but no tuition will be provided whatsoever.

An hour and a half time slot will in reality be an hour and twenty minutes working on the wheel with ten minutes at the end left for cleaning up. At the end of the session, the space, wheel and tools will need to be left as clean as they were at the beginning.

Any pots that you would like to keep will need to be paid for on that date.

Unlike on the courses, you will need to have your own apron or overalls or make do with old clothes and a towel!
